Hand Picked Abstract Wallpapers Selection

Wallpapers, Desktop Customization No Comments »

Nearly all of our most popular Wallpapers on WallpapersForVista.com come from our extensive Abstract Wallpapers category.  I’d like to highlight which abstract wallpapers are getting the most attention here at WfV, and perhaps convince you that it’s time to change your desktop along the way!

Aurora Bliss Wallpaper

Aurora Bliss Abstract Wallpaper - Over 40,000 Views since the launch of WfV easily puts this abstract Wallpaper far above the rest!  The Aurora Bliss Effect was really made popular when Vista’s cover art was unveiled.  Since then, the aurora effect has exploded all over the net, in the form of wallpapers, websites, and even tutorials.  We’ve done a fair bit of Aurora Themed wallpapers ourselves in different colors: Aurora Glow Wallpaper, Aurora Jungle Wallpaper, Aurora Ribbon Wallpaper, Aurora Chill Wallpaper, Aurora Bright Wallpaper.

Blue Ketamine Wallpaper - One of our loyal users, pickupjojo, has uploaded several very nice wallpapers in our collection.  Many of his Abstract Wallpapers are featured on WfV, including this awesome abstract blue wallpaper he’s designed!

Aqua Wallpaper

Aquacious Abstract Wallpaper - One of my personal favorites, a little mix of Aqua and Delicious.  This abstract, aqua based wallpaper is sure to add some life to any boring desktop, complete with a glossy finish, and vibrant blue colors.  There is an alternate version as well without text.

Metal Glacier Abstract Wallpaper

Metal Glacier Abstract Wallpaper - This 3D Abstract Wallpaper features a massive metal object as it slowly devours the screen like a big shiny glacier.    There are several alternative versions including Gold, Heat, and Ice.

We’re constantly seeing new Abstract Wallpapers being uploaded to the site, many of them uploaded by viewers such as yourself!  Thanks so much for your continued support, and here’s to another year in excellent desktops!

Welcome to “This Week in Desktop Customization”!

Wallpapers for Vista may be a great stop for some nice wallpapers, but we would hate to limit our viewers to just one source. “This Week in Desktop Customization” is a place where we feature our favorite finds from across the web, and share them with you!

Features of the Week:

  •  Wincustomize reveals that SkinStudio 6 Beta has arrived (an application that lets users create their own skins that can be applied to programs with GUI’s).  The program requires Windows Blinds, but definitely makes it easy for designers to become skinners.
  • TuneUp has announced a Style Contest with over $8000 in prizes!  They are looking for Icons, Visual Styles for Windows Vista, Boot Screens, and Logon Screens.  Build up your rep, and go earn some cash by joining the style contest today!  Thanks to Customize.org for the heads up.
  • Did you know that you could get a free 2GB Email account “username @ vista.aero”?  Well, thanks to Bink.nu teaming up with Windows Live, now you can!  Go grab your new mailbox today @ vista.aero!  Thanks to joejoe for sharing this!
  • Long Zheng found out that the new Vista SP 1 has some modified looks.  The new Windows Vista Service Pack has already leaked onto the internetz, and some people just can’t wait to get their hands on’em :P

Have you found anything interesting recently worth sharing?

Welcome to “This Week in Desktop Customization”!

Wallpapers for Vista may be a great stop for some nice wallpapers, but we would hate to limit our viewers to just one source. “This Week in Desktop Customization” is a place where we feature our favorite finds from across the web, and share them with you!

Features of the Week:

  • DreamSceneVideo.net featured a really nice Dream Scene a few days ago called Poubel Sunset.  This is probably one of my favorite dreams so far (I’ve used it myself… it has superb quality, and the awing effect of a beautiful sunset).  I also caught this dream on WinCustomize a bit earlier on.  Please note that “Stardock DeskScapes” is required to use this dream.
  • Customize.org announces that Windows Blinds Beta 6 has been released for Object Desktop Subscribers.  Some of the new features sound very cool (ie: Blurring effects for Vista and Windows XP).  Looking forward to the final release of this!
  • Blogwaw surprises us again with another really nice wallpaper (max resolution of 1920×1200).  Go take a look at “Central Living” for a modern artists perspective of the city.
  • GUI Mods shares a cool theme for Windows XP Windows Blinds Theme called “Metal Vista 3.0“.  It looks pretty slick!  I can’t run it on my machine, but it might be worth a look if you are running XP.

That’s it for this week in desktop customization!  Your comments and input are always appreciated!  Why not share your favorite things you’ve found recently?

See ya next week!

Wallpaper Websites that treat people like… well, real people

Wallpapers, Desktop Customization 1 Comment »

The Desktop customization population of websites is a total mess.  Virtually anywhere you go to download wallpapers, screensavers, themes, styles, etc, you are bombarded with ads, fees, spyware, viruses, or some annoying “Registration Required” page.  What gives?

Luckily, there are a few desktop customization websites that still have good values and treat their visitors like real people.  It’s these sites that we hold true and dear when everything else seems lost, and when our desktop needs a total makeover!

Wallpapers for Vista was based off these values, but we don’t stand alone in the field of ethical sites in this genre.  Here are just a few of our favorite Wallpaper and desktop related sites:

  • Customize.org - A one stop place for downloading skins, wallpapers, themes, and other visual styles to spruce up your desktop.  No registration is required for downloads, but members do get access to cool features, as well as a personal profile.
  • WinCustomize - Another single stop for multiple desktop enhancements.  Although this site does require registration for unlimited & priority downloads, it makes up for it with its’ excellent news updated daily.  For those of us addicted to making our desktops look “purdy”, updates from around the net can be very helpful.
  • WinMatrix Forums - A vast community, with countless members constantly posting new desktop related material.  Users share their wallpapers, icons, widgets, tips, and much more!  I’ve been a member at these forums for a little while now, and so far have felt very welcomed.  No registration is required to browse the forums however.  They also have a collective summary of what’s new on the frontpage.
  • Tweaks.com - Offers a wide variety of articles that teach how to “Tweak” your version of windows.  Alternatively, you can visit TweaksVista.com, TweakXP.com, or TweakMCE (Media Center Edition) if you want to view tweaks for your version of windows only.  I’ve found some really cool programs and tricks here.
  • VistaStyles.org - It’s been really difficult finding some “Vista Desktop Customization” blogs around the blogosphere that don’t serve a whole lot of crap.  I guess since it’s a new hot topic, spammers find the need to take over immediately.  VistaStyles.org is one of the few blogs I have found that seems to be interested in providing some top quality themes related to Windows Vista.
  • Dreamscenevideo.net - Another one of the few Vista related blogs that is not breathing hot air for the search engines to index.  This blog is dedicated to bringing its viewers some of the coolest DreamScenes on the web.

Well, that’s it for our list.  As always, comments are appreciated!  Perhaps you have some favorite sites of your own!  Feel free to share!
